THE BAHÁ'Í FAITH
A new religion for a new age
What do Bahá'ís believe?
The Bahá'í Faith is the youngest of the world's independent religions. Its founder, Bahá'u'lláh (1817 - 1892) and Whose name means 'The Glory of God', is regarded by Bahá'ís as the most recent in the line of Messengers of God that stretches back beyond recorded time and that includes Abraham, Moses, Buddha, Zoroaster, Christ and Muhammad. The central theme of Bahá'u'lláh's message is the oneness of God, the essential oneness of all religions, and the oneness of the world of humanity. A worldwide community of some five million Bahá'ís, representative of most of the nations, races and cultures on earth, is working towards the building of a peaceful, global society, which Bahá'ís believe is inevitable.
Some Basic Bahá'í Beliefs
There is only one God.
All religions are one and divine in origin, they only differ in their social teachings.
There is only one human race which consists of many different peoples and cultures and all are the recipients of the bounty and bestowals of God.
Each person should learn for themselves about religion and make up their own mind about what to believe in, without pressure from family or friends.
Women and men are equal. One cannot exist without the other.
Religion and science should go hand in hand. Religion should not contradict common sense, and science should not step outside moral bounds.
The elimination of prejudice of all kinds.
Universal compulsory education.
From the Writings of Bahá'u'lláh:
"My first counsel is this: Possess a pure, kindly and radiant heart…" "Truthfulness is the foundation of all human virtues." "The purpose of religion as revealed from the heaven of God's Holy Will is to establish unity and concord amongst the peoples of the world: make it not the cause of dissension and strife…Religion bestoweth upon man the most precious of all gifts…" "Consort with all the followers of all religions in a spirit of friendliness and fellowship." "The earth is but one country and mankind its citizens."
